How you can protect yourself
There are simple steps you can take to help us reduce the risk of identity theft and misuse of your account.
-
Turn on multi-factor authentication
Having two or more authentication factors increases your cyber safety. It makes it harder for someone to access your accounts.
If you have registered for our member portal, two-factor authentication is already in place for you. Every time you log in you receive a one-time code to the mobile number on your account. You simply enter the code into the login page.
You should turn on multi-factor authentication wherever possible.
By keeping all of your personal accounts (such as your email and bank accounts) safe, you’re reducing the risk of threat to your super account too.
The cyber.gov.au website has a great guide on how to turn on multi-factor authentication.

-
Stay up to date with your account
Keeping an eye on your Super SA account is an easy way to spot any unusual activity. You can do this online by registering and logging into the member portal, where you’ll be able to:
- track your account balance
- update your details
- check your employer contributions
- download your annual statement
- review your insurance cover
- switch investment options.

Create a secure passphrase
A unique, strong passphrase can better protect your account compared to a simple password and can be easier to remember.
To create an effective passphrase:
- aim for at least 14 characters
- use a mix of random words
- create different passphrases for different accounts.
If our security monitoring detects a compromise of your password or passphrase, we’ll temporarily lock your account to keep it safe. You will be required to contact us to unlocked your account.
An easy way to securely create, store, and manage all your passphrases is to use a password manager.
Password managers allow you to:
- create strong and unique passwords
- store passwords and other logins securely in one place from any device
- save time and effort by auto-filling your login details.
You can learn more about passphrases and password managers at cyber.gov.au. -
Recognise scams
Scams are a common way for cybercriminals to target your online accounts, tricking you into giving away money or personal information. They often disguise themselves as trusted people or organisations through emails, texts, phone calls, and social media.
Scammers catch you off guard, especially when you’re busy or distracted. They rely on your haste to miss warning signs. Here’s what to watch out for:
- misspellings or images and graphics that don’t look quite right
- unknown sender addresses
- suspicious attachments
- links that lead you directly to your online account
- requests for personal information.
If you notice any of these warning signs, avoid clicking on links, opening attachments or responding until you’ve verified the legitimacy of the email or text message.
If the call, text message or email is impersonating Super SA, contact us immediately.
